To understand mental illness we must appreciate the fact that every one of us is a conditioned individual. This is inevitable because no matter which society one grows up in one receives a powerful conditioning effect from the cultural value system, the language and traditions of that society. It means that every one of us is brainwashed by the society we live in as we grow up. It also means that every one of us will have acquired values, traditions and beliefs of that group and have some distorted perception of reality to start with. Our perceptions then change as time and experience forces us to move on. It is up to the individual to wake up and clear up those perceptions during one’s lifetime or die becoming a copy of the people around them.
Normally we all go about our daily activities despite our somewhat distorted perceptions. This is because society conditions us to think in a particular way. However this normality is relative to the society we live in. Since not all societies have the same value system, what is considered right in one society may
Here are a few plant-based foods that are excellent protein sources:
- Hemp Seeds. Hemp seeds contain 10 grams of protein per 2 tablespoons, and this comes with plenty of healthy fat to help the protein absorb. Hemp seeds also contain more fiber than their hulled version called hemp hearts. You can add hemp seeds to your smoothies, use it on top of a salad or oatmeal, add it to any dessert or you can even use it to make hemp seed milk.
- Lentils. One cup of cooked lentils contains 18 grams of protein, which can already be enough for an entire meal! You can eat lentils on its own, you can add it to salads, you can even turn it into vegetarian or vegan burgers.
- Quinoa. Per cup quinoa contains 8 grams of protein, which makes it perfect to add to your meals. Use it as a substitute for rice, add into your salads, or make a vegetable quinoa bowl with scrambled egg for breakfast. Quinoa has a slight nutty taste but be sure to rinse it before cooking to remove the saponins that make it taste bitter. It is
Optimism is a characteristic always displayed by successful people. How so? Because they never gave in to their failures and always pushed through despite the obstacles. They remain optimistic throughout the ups and downs of their journey. Additionally, these successful and mentally strong people are supported by their friends, relatives, and colleagues-a group of positive people. They don’t let pessimism get in the way of reaching their goals. Be the person that looks at a glass half full.
Find Balance With Negative Thoughts
Acknowledging negative thoughts also comes in handy at times. It enables you to see what could go wrong and how to plan and deal with it in advance. To be clear, negative thinking is welcome but being a pessimist isn’t.
Use Your Mental Energy Wisely
Distraction is one of the common causes of unproductivity and decreased mental energy. It’s always lurking and hiding in various forms, the most common being your smartphone and the social media apps you can access with just a few swipes and taps. Admit it, there are times where you just pause your work only
The term cannabis is used loosely here to represent cannabis and marijuana, the latter being sourced from a different part of the plant. More than 100 chemical compounds are found in cannabis, each potentially offering differing benefits or risk.
A person who is “stoned” on smoking cannabis might experience a euphoric state where time is irrelevant, music and colours take on a greater significance and the person might acquire the “nibblies”, wanting to eat sweet and fatty foods. This is often associated with impaired motor skills and perception. When high blood concentrations are achieved, paranoid thoughts, hallucinations and panic attacks may characterize his “trip”.
In the vernacular, cannabis is often characterized as “good shit” and “bad shit”, alluding to widespread contamination practice. The contaminants may come from soil quality (eg pesticides & heavy metals) or added subsequently. Sometimes particles of lead or tiny beads of glass augment the weight sold.
A random selection of therapeutic effects appears here in context of their evidence status. Some of the effects will be shown as beneficial, while others carry risk. Some effects are barely distinguished from the placebos of the research.

In actuality, you do not have to be a massage expert in order to administer aromatherapy on the skin. If you will just look around, you will find tons of aromatherapy oil recipes. However, you need to ensure that you and the person receiving the treatment are not allergic to the oil components and the carrier oil itself. For instance, cinnamon oil is not suitable for direct skin application since it can be a very strong irritant. Also, vegetable oils that are often used as carrier should be diluted well and stabilized to become safe on the skin. Essentially, using the right oil and the perfect mix can travel a long way in achieving total wellness.
There are various types of oils that can be used in the treatment in order to achieve certain goals. Here are a few oils to choose from:
- Rosemary oil – This one is one of the most commonly used oils when it comes to aromatherapy, due to its handful of benefits. It greatly helps in restoring oral health; relieving conditions like bad breath. It can also provide skin with more moisture and better tone. Plus, it works great in clearing
The soul which has a human body, at its most simplistic level, is energy. Even at the moment of conception, there is energy. Soul is that energy that is all-pervading. And going one step further, science reveals energy cannot be destroyed; hence, the soul survives the death of its body. Yet, my title suggests soul loss. Does that contradict the Second Law of Thermodynamics? Frankly, no!
Soul loss comes to us from ancient shamanic practices. In days gone by, the healer described the malaise suffered by an individual as soul loss, or a part of the soul being taken away, stolen, or kept by a loved one. Our ancient ancestors believed that a soul could get lost and because it had trouble finding its way back, the individual became ill. Additionally, an evil entity could steal a part of the soul; thus creating illness. A parent, especially a mother, might keep a part of her child’s soul out of love when that child married, or went away and unknowingly create illness. The healer would travel to another realm to locate the wandering soul or a part of one and return it to the client. This was done
The art of aromatherapy is using the aromatic oils (essential oils) found in plants for the treatment of disease and for other health benefits. Those essential oils are taken from the plants and mixed with other substances, such as alcohol, lotion and other oils. Traditionally, they were applied in an oil base and massaged into the skin but they may also be beneficial when they are inhaled by being sprayed into the air or through the use of high-quality aromatherapy candles.
The fragrances from the essential oils work within the body, including the nerves of the nose to stimulate enzymes, hormones and to cause changes in the functions of the body. This would include lowering the pulse and reducing your blood pressure. It is also thought that aromatherapy may help to stimulate the production of substances within the body that reduce pain.
Aromatherapy candles make it very convenient for anyone to enjoy the benefits that this ancient art has to offer. You can sit in a room with these candles, enjoying some music or a good book while at the same time, improving your health. Each scent is going to have a specific benefit to the
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is the full name. There are mild, moderate, and severe symptoms, hence why it is a spectrum disorder. Behavior Analysis is a field within psychology that focuses on understanding behavior and how it is affected by the environment. The use of scientifically-validated teaching techniques to bring about meaningful and positive change in behavior is known as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Positive change is correcting the symptoms of ASD.
Positive change in behavior are: (but not limited to) increase socialization, increase communication skills, decrease problematic and repetitive behaviors
Some of the common repetitive behaviors displayed in individuals with ASD are aggression, self-injury, bizarre speech, and hand flapping.
Although Autism is typically a life long condition, it is beneficial that individuals receive interventions and therapies. There becomes a concern when individuals don’t achieve certain developmental milestones. Learning to talk, walk, eat independently, and play with others are things that an individual should start learning between the ages of birth and 3 years old. Overall, Autism means that person has developmental delays in some way(s).
Someone who has Autism may need more support to develop certain skills. The earlier interventions are the better.
Virasana (also known as hero poses)
Just sit in a comfortable position with your hips resting on your heels, involving a slight stretching of your ankles and knees. Stretching your spine upside and taking deep breaths in this position will help clear your mind and slow down your heart rate.
Bitilasana and Marjaryasana (cow and cat pose)
Without getting up from the virasana, you just need to roll in the forward position on the support of your knees and hands. For bitilasana, you have to pull your lower back down with your tailbone and head pointing upwards. For the Marjaryasana, you just have to do the reverse, your tailbone and head tilt downwards while your spine is arched upwards like the shape of letter C. Just keep alternating between these positions for as much time as you want to.
Start with sinking of your hips on your heels while your chest stays settled between your thighs. Here, your toes would be on one another while your thighs can lay apart as much as you find comfortable. Now, rest your forehead on the floor and start making walk like movement from your fingers
The existence of fatty acids
Carrier oils contain fatty acids and will leave an oil stain on paper or cloth.
Essential oils don’t contain fatty acids and will usually not leave stains on paper or cloth. (Note: More viscous, darker-colored ones might because of their color.)
The reaction with plastic
Carrier oils are usually sold in plastic bottles. This is generally fine if they’re not stored for too long.
Essential oils, however, will dissolve plastic. This is one reason why reputable vendors will never use plastic packaging. They will use glass or metal instead to avoid oil contamination.
The rate of evaporation
Carrier oils are what we call fixed oils. They don’t really evaporate at room temperature.
Essential oils are volatile oils. They evaporate (diffuse) at room temperature.
The aroma strength
As carrier oils are extracted from the “fatty” parts of plants, they have very little aroma or at most, they will have just a slight nutty smell. If you detect a strong (and rather unpleasant) smell in your bottle of carrier oil, it probably means it has turned bad (see #7 below).
Comparatively, essential oils are
For the more humanistic approach to PTSD treatment, there are a few organizations that are focusing on helping the individual to get past the horrific experiences and help them to create a thriving and successful life for him or herself.
For instance, in a recent Channel 10 News section in Sarasota, Florida, “Veterans finding peace with equine therapy”, the focus was on the Circle V Ranch and Rehabilitation Center in Dade City. This ranch has, as its mission, to help veterans and first responders with alternative treatment. (Alternative to drug treatment). The ranch works with equine therapy to help the veteran and horse to work together and through this work, the veteran is able to move forward in their lives. One psychologist at the center is quoted in the news as saying that “They start to reconnect with themselves as they connect with the horse. As they connect with themselves, they can start to connect with the group. As they do that, they can start to reconnect with their family.” Additionally, the ranch offers help to the family, taking into consideration that PTSD symptoms do affect all.

Our bodies have evolved over thousands of years to adapt and benefit from our natural environment. Plants have learned to make their own food from sunlight. As human beings, our bodies also produce essential nutrients in our skin, such as vitamin D, D3-sulfate (anti-inflammatory), and nitric oxide (lowers blood pressure) that help us stay vital and healthy. Light to the eyes, especially the blue wavelength, is important for maintaining normal sleep (circadian) cycles. Bright morning light is especially helpful and has been shown to be effective against insomnia, PMS and depression.
Even as the sun energizes us, prolonged exposure to UV radiation can cause health problems for the skin, eyes and immune system. But small amounts of UVB rays are quite safe, and essential for optimal health. Without the benefits of vitamin D our bones become soft, and this is well known. Vitamin D acts as a hormone in the body increasing endorphins, serotonin, (mood enhancer), melatonin, and naturally relieves depression.
But there is an epidemic deficiency in vitamin D levels today, and it is a global health problem. What isn’t so well known is that the lack of vitamin D is indicated in so many illnesses, and the list is staggering: heart
