The formula to staying hydrated isn’t a complicated equation, but it does vary from person to person. It’s important to replace any fluid that’s lost throughout the day and night, and those variables can change drastically day-to-day and person-to-person. If you’re exercising in extreme heat or humidity, you’re going to lose fluid more rapidly than if you’re chilling at the movies. The color of your urine is a good way to determine your hydration status. If your urine is pale and straw-colored, you’re adequately hydrated. If it’s dark, like the color of apple juice, you’re low on fluids.

Sweat It Out

Dehydration can occur even if you’re not sweating. In extreme heat and cold, your body loses fluid very quickly without sweating at all. You may not realize it, but you even sweat when you’re swimming! Spending the day frolicking in the pool isn’t a preventive measure. Athletes need to be even more aware of dehydration risks. Athletes tend to sweat more overall than people who aren’t as physically fit, and they may push themselves longer and harder, causing even greater fluid losses.

So the students will not get the full knowledge. Hence the real knowledge has been stuck up with someone who will not transfer it down for some reason or other.

The origin of any yoga is yoga treatises. The modern Guru select one or some of the techniques from the ancient yogic treatises and modify slightly and give a new name. He will use that name for a patent. This is how there are so many yoga brands available and so many institutes are marketing those brands. The knowledge belongs to the sages of the yore and the yoga institutes are selling it as their product.

If you are ready to put some efforts to gain that knowledge through learning of those treatises of ancient time, you can well avoid these middlemen. No contemporary Guru get his knowledge from his own research. If at all he does any research, that findings are related to the benefits doing a kriya of the earlier time. There are thousands and thousands of yoga techniques available in the scriptures. One’s lifetime is not enough to learn and practice them all. By learning them through scriptures, we could understand them, identify them with the yoga brands available and practice a few of them which are suitable for us. Hence the study of the scriptures is required for anybody who is planning for yoga practice.

Try mixing a few drops with a carrier oil such as fractionated coconut or almond oil and rub across the abdomen for pain relief. I use a particular blend of oils made for the same purpose and it comes in a bottle with a rollerball that makes application easy. Just rub on the wrist and breathe it in. It instantly calms and helps cool those hot flashes and night sweats associated with menopause or post menopause in my case.

One of the best essential oils for balance is bergamot, a unique citrus oil that has a wonderful depth of smell. It mainly assists with emotional feelings like self worth and self acceptance. Blending bergamot with lavender and cedarwood will help ease the mind and relax the body, all great for dealing with stress.

Cedarwood Essential Oil

Cedarwood has been used in native American Indian ceremonies to enhance communion with the spirit and promote bravery against all odds.

Like all evergreen oils, cedarwood essential oil enhances feelings of security and protection. The aroma is used by aromatherapists to calm anger and relieve nervous tension. It quiets mind chatter, going over and over the same details and options ad nauseum. It promotes firm resolve and emotional stability, even against persistent opposition.

I recommend using cedarwood when you are going into strange or unfamiliar situations. It has been shown effective for those who suffer with ADHD.

I like to think of the essential oil of cedarwood as a powerful oil for breaking up phlegm and congestion not only in the physical body, but also congestion that may be cluttering our minds and emotions. Cedarwood is excellent for meditation and clarity of mind. It reduces tension and promotes restful sleep.

Dilute half and half with a vegetable mixing oil and apply it to the feet or to the body. It is also a wonderful aroma for diffusing. It fills the house with cherished heirloom memories.

Because it dissolves mucous, cedarwood is useful for chest infections, asthma, and coughs. It also sooths and heals the skin, especially the scalp. Cedarwood is often used for dandruff, hair loss, and psoriasis.

Cedarwood essential oil helps with lymphatic drainage and stimulates the breakdown of fat in the tissues. It is mildly diuretic, helping somewhat with cellulite and water retention. Being a decongestant, astringent, and anti-microbial oil, cedarwood is helpful in all respiratory and urinary tract infections.

Use it as an insect repellent around spices and foods. It is not only antiseptic and antifungal, but also an astringent. It not only stimulates the circulatory system but calms the nervous system at the same time-a rare and powerful combination.

Yoga Old And Modern

These modern-day practices on closer inspection are very different from those of antiquity.

Some purists of the day who see modern yoga as being so different from the traditional they refer to modern yoga as “Not Yoga”.

Historically speaking, yoga was taut orally and there are subtle differences between those teachers of old.

Principles of this practice were usually communicated through religious teaching where brief instructions were expanded on verbally.

For example, in ancient times the outline of yoga was be found in 196 sutras of yoga which was then discussed with and elaborated upon by a teacher to pupil.

Furthermore, the deeper meaning of Om mantra for example, is detailed Upanishad and is elaborated upon orally.

This article is not claiming that there exists a single universal contemporary yoga… there are also many different approaches.

However, the overall perceptions of yoga have made an overall shift which has proved worthy of scrutiny.

So yoga like many of the ancient traditional practices seems to have been compromised over the centuries.

We may argue though that these inevitable changes are only a reflection of yogas ability to adapt to the changes of time.

Ancient or otherwise traditional yoga combines deep religious roots with physical and highly meditational practices.

The aim of traditional yoga was to attain moksha-liberation, freedom from reincarnation and recognitions of one’s own divinity.

As we have seen traditional yoga is practiced in a different way than most popular modern styles.

An example of this can be seen when take a look at jnana yoga that doesn’t have any physical postures. Instead the emphasis is on a path of rational self-enquiry and seeks true enlightenment of one’s true nature.

When the term yoga is used many of us think of bending into different postures.

In fact, these postures, otherwise known as “asanas” traditionally were not a part of yoga until someone called Pontanjali wrote the Yoga Sutra around 2200 years ago.

Pontanjali created postures to discipline the body and conscious connection.

Ancient yoga practitioners viewed asanas as a small but useable part of the practice as a whole.

Traditional yoga styles are not a popular practice as modern yoga in Western culture, but many aspects are incorporated into today’s yoga styles.

Having said that, most yoga studios today now base their practice on a variety of physical postures/asanas.

Because of its many benefits including increased flexibility, and stress relief yoga has become a popular activity in Western culture

In addition, depending on the style of yoga a typical class may be focused on physical fitness or may focus on meditation utilising some of the ancient background.
